Nature reserves

Hedlandet
Hedlandet is situated on the outlet of lake Hjälmaren.  It is a large nature reserve with varied wildlife habitats and is rich in bird life. There are good hiking and cycling routes with picnic and barbeque areas.


Ridö-Sundbyholm archipelago
The Ridö-Sundbyholm archipelago is part of the Mälaren Archipelago and consists of about 20 islands. It is an unspoiled area dominated by forests and rich in bird life.


Skiren-Kvicken
Skiren-Kvicken is situated west of Eskilstuna. Ancient forests surround two lakes. There are hiking paths and wetland areas rich in bird life.


Sörfjärden nature reserve
Sörfjärden nature reserve is part of a large UN conservation area and is of national interest in terms of nature and landscape preservation.

There are hiking paths, forests, rich bird life and a bird watch tower. The Rördrommen field station arranges guided tours for pre-booked groups.


Sundbyholm on Mälaren
Sundbyholm on Mälaren is a beautiful heritage area around the Sundbyholm castle and the Sigurd carving from the Viking Ages.

Sundbyholm also has one of Sweden’s northernmost beech woods, beautiful grazing lands, hiking paths and beaches. Sundbyholm ridge is an interesting geological feature.


Vilsta
Vilsta is situated south of Eskilstuna. There is a large area of ancient forest with a recreation area, swimming, fishing, down-hill skiing in winter, the Sörmlandsleden hiking route, camping site and a hostel.


Årby at E20
There are mixed forests and open grazing lands close to the city and E20. There is a recreation area with hiking routes including the Gyllenhielmska path which goes from Årby to Sundbyholm.
